5 Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari

Your journey begins with a warm welcome from your knowledgeable guide and check-in at your hotel. Enjoy a city tour of Kigali, where you’ll explore significant historical sites, museums, and local landmarks that tell the story of Rwanda’s resilience and transformation. Learn about Rwanda’s past from the pre-colonial era to the present as you visit the Genocide Memorial, local markets, and other cultural highlights. 

Overnight: Kigali (Bed & Breakfast)

After breakfast, travel to Akagera National Park for a wilderness adventure. You’ll have the option of a morning game drive, where you can spot diverse wildlife, or an afternoon boat ride on Lake Ihema, where you can see crocodiles, hippos, and abundant birdlife. Experience Rwanda’s only Big 5 safari destination, known for its diverse ecosystem of savannahs, wetlands, and lakes.

Overnight: Akagera Game Lodge or similar (Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast)

Enjoy a captivating game drive through Akagera National Park. Spot the park’s iconic wildlife, including elephants, rhinos, buffalo, and a variety of antelope species. After your game drive, embark on a cultural journey and visit a local community to learn about Rwanda’s pastoralist heritage. You’ll return to Kigali or drive to Musanze, depending on your choice.

Today, you’ll experience the highlight of the tour—an awe-inspiring gorilla trekking adventure in Volcanoes National Park. Set out at dawn for the trek, where you’ll have the rare opportunity to observe a mountain gorilla family in its natural habitat. In the afternoon, you can explore the nearby Buhanga Forest or visit the serene Twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Burera. End the day with a village walk to connect with locals and experience Rwanda’s rural life.

Overnight: Musanze (Lunch, Dinner, Breakfast)

On your final day, visit the Kinigi Cultural Village for a cultural experience like no other. Witness traditional “Batwa” dancing and musical performances, and learn the processes behind local beer production using banana and sorghum. Afterward, you’ll drive back to Kigali for a farewell before being transferred to the airport for your departure.
