After breakfast, start your adventure with a city tour of Kigali, visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, Nyamata Church, and Ntarama Memorial Church. These sites offer a poignant glimpse into Rwanda’s history, particularly the tragic events of the genocide. Following a reflective morning, enjoy lunch in Kigali before embarking on a scenic drive to Akagera National Park, located in the eastern province of Rwanda. This savannah park is home to a variety of big game species, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, impalas, and the rare roan antelope. Dinner and overnight will be at the luxurious Ruzizi Tented Camp.
Begin your day with a hot cup of coffee before setting out on a morning game drive. The sunrise over the savannah offers a stunning backdrop as you spot early risers such as zebras, giraffes, antelopes, elephants, and occasionally leopards. After the game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast and some relaxation time. In the evening, experience a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, the largest lake in Akagera National Park. This cruise provides an opportunity to see elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and numerous bird species up close. Conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay at Ruzizi Tented Camp.
After breakfast, leave Akagera National Park and drive to Volcanoes National Park, the proud home of mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. En route, enjoy a stopover to view the picturesque Twin Lakes, Ruhondo and Bulera, nestled in the foothills of Mount Muhabura. Upon arrival at the park, have lunch at the lodge and spend the afternoon taking in the breathtaking scenery of the Virunga ranges. Dinner and overnight will be at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Rise early for an exciting day of gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. After a pre-trek briefing at the park headquarters, head into the lush forests with your ranger guide in search of mountain gorillas. Spending an hour with these gentle giants is an unforgettable experience. Return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation. In the afternoon, visit the Iby’iwachu Cultural Village, where you will gain insight into the traditional customs and practices of the local communities. Dinner and overnight will be at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Following breakfast, set off for an adventure to track the elusive golden monkeys. This unique experience is only available in Volcanoes National Park. After observing these playful creatures, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, hike to the grave of Dian Fossey, the renowned primatologist who dedicated her life to studying and protecting mountain gorillas. The hike to the grave site offers stunning views of bamboo forests and montane habitats. Dinner and overnight will be at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
After breakfast, depart for the stunning Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s Great Lakes, located on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The journey offers incredible scenery, with terraced hills and beautiful landscapes. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch by the lake, followed by a leisurely afternoon. Dinner and overnight will be at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.
Start your day with a boat cruise on Lake Kivu, exploring its numerous islands and taking in the scenic beauty of the surrounding hills. After the cruise, return to the lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the day relaxing on the sandy beach or engaging in optional water activities. Dinner and overnight will be at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel.
Following breakfast, embark on a journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park, home to a vast array of wildlife, including chimpanzees and various monkey species. The park is also renowned for its rich botanical diversity. Arrive at the luxurious Nyungwe House in time for dinner and an overnight stay.
An early morning start takes you deep into Nyungwe Forest for an exciting chimpanzee tracking adventure. After a briefing, trek through the dense forest in search of these fascinating primates. Once you spot them, enjoy an hour observing their behaviors. Return to the lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight will be at Nyungwe House.
After breakfast, embark on an exhilarating canopy walk. This high suspension bridge offers breathtaking views over the forest and its diverse flora and fauna. Spot various bird species and primates as you walk among the treetops. Return to the lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the day relaxing in the serene surroundings. Dinner and overnight will be at Nyungwe House.
Conclude your safari with a journey back to Kigali. En route, visit the traditional King’s Palace in Nyanza and the National Museum in Butare, where you will have lunch. Arrive in Kigali in the afternoon, with your guide either dropping you off at your hotel or the airport for your departure flight.
